Abstract

Objective: To report a case of bilateral partial nephrectomy with adequate evolution, exposing medical and surgical approach. Presentation of clinical case: 70 year old male patient, who is evaluated and bilateral renal solid masses are evidenced, no vascular invasion or adenopathies are evidenced. These lesions are limited to the renal parenchyma, so the patient goes to the operating room for bilateral partial nephrectomy. Surgical specimen in histological sections corresponds to a neoplasm with alveolar pattern composed of cellular nests (renal cell carcinoma, clear cell variety). Patient with adequate postoperative evolution with good prognosis. Discussion: Renal cell carcinoma corresponds to 85-90% of solid renal tumors, these occur bilaterally in 1-4% of patients. Bilateral tumors can be synchronous or asynchronous, synchronous tumors occur simultaneously or up to one year after the first lesion is diagnosed and those that appear later are considered as metachronous or asynchronous. The approach to these lesions is complex, the scientific evidence is scarce regarding the ideal approach in bilateral renal tumors due to the few cases reported worldwide. Conclusion: Bilateral partial nephrectomy is a surgical procedure with favorable prognosis for patients, preserving renal function in order to protect quality of life. (1-3)
