Objectives: To carry out a bibliographic review on the history and development of Radiotherapy in the treatment of prostate cancer. Background: Prostate cancer is the 2nd most frequent after breast cancer with very high cure rates in localized stages. Among the radical treatments we have surgery and radiotherapy in its different modalities. Radiotherapy has developed significantly in recent decades and is an effective treatment. Results: We describe a brief history of the discovery of radiation and the development of Radiotherapy treatments in prostate cancer such as Brachytherapy, 3D external radiotherapy, IMRT and SBRT. Conclusions: Radiotherapy as treatment of prostate cancer has evolved greatly in terms of technology, local control, side effects and patient comfort, with advanced techniques such as SBRT and treatments within 5 days with rates of local recurrence at 7 years of up to 93.7 %.
