Emphysematous pyelonephritis is considered a severe clinical condition that compromises the kidney and the patient's health. This pathology should be considered in
case of urinary tract infection associated with serious clinical signs, mainly in diabetics. Therefore, it is of great interest for the institution to have a compilation of the cases that occur, the associated factors in our population, as well as their evolution and management. Materials and methods: the data was obtained retrospectively using access to the clinical records of patients who consulted in the emergency unit of the ISSS General Hospital and were classified as having emphysematous
pyelonephritis between the years 2015 and 2020. Results: 39 patients with emphysematous pyelonephritis were analyzed the most frequent age range was between 50 and 59 years. The female sex predominated with 62%. The risk factor most associated with 36% is Diabetes Mellitus, followed by obesity with 20%; in third place are recurrent urinary tract infections in 14%. Conclusion: the female population is the most likely to develop this pathology associated with factors such as Diabetes. The current trend is to make an early diagnosis and use non-surgical treatment.
