Penile Necrosis, Our Experience at the ISSS

Penile necrosis is associated with systemic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, due to the placement of penile prostheses, intravascular calcium deposits in patients with advanced kidney disease and on dialysis or hemodialysis, which produce an entity known as calciphylaxis. It has also been found associated with Fournier's gangrene, external compression of the penis with a tourniquet effect, warfarin administration, herpes simplex type I, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, and priapism caused by drugs such as cocaine.
