Purpose: Our main objectives are: first to present the results of our first serie of 59 cases to evaluate if in the countries of our region is feasible to perform this kind of procedure. In second place to expose the RIRS technique used in our Hospital because there are some differences with respect to others centers published.
Materials and Methods: We present our recent series of fifty seven retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) for the treatment of renal o proximal ureteral lithiasis and other two patologies treated under this method; all cases were retrospectively evaluated.
Results: The mean age of the patients was 41.8 years. The mean stone size was 7.22 mm. We do not use a cistoscope, we start with a rigid ureteroscope. For the majority of our procedures we used fiber optic URS. The insertion of the access sheath was performed over the guidewire with a second security guidewire in all patients. The total stone-free status was accomplished in 47 (82.45%) patients, with a few number of complications (8.47%)
Conclusion: The RIRS can be safely and effectively performed in our country, region and patients
