Objetives: Compare the management given to the calcified ureteral stent in our institution with that proposed by the FECAL protocol, identify the main cause of forgotten ureteral stent.
Patients and methods: A descriptive, retrospective, observational, cross-sectional study of patients managed with a forgotten catheter was performed in the ISSS period from January 2018 to March 2019.
Results: The management of the forgotten calcified catheter was compared based on the FECAL protocol of the Loyola Medical Center, Maywood, Illinois. It is described the management of 15 patients with being held according to the FECAL protocol with the difference in the use of intracorporeal pneumatic lithotripsy instead of using laser energy, it was found that the lack of information is the main factor for the development of this complication.
Conclusions: By not having an adequate protocol for the management of patients with double j catheter and difficulties of the care system that can prevent the lack of information is a critical factor for the development of the complication studied.
