Green Light Laser XPS Treatment of BPH for Patients Treated in a Single Center by a Single Surgeon from 2015 to 2017: Description of Surgical Technique and Initial Experience.

Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the postoperative efficacy for the treatment of BPH using the Green Light Láser XPS console at 180 watts and to describe our surgical technique.

Justification: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the mayor cause of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in men over 40 years of age. Surgery is the most important tool surgeons have to treat BPH in a definite manner.

Methods: Retrospective review of medical files of patients diagnosed with BPH operated by Dr Mario Gonzalez in Hospital La California with the Green Light Láser XPS console between  2015-2017.

Results: From the 250 of the original cases, 146 were included in our study. The mean age was 66.3 years (44-86 yr range). There was a statistically significant decrease in the initial and postoperative IPSS in all pacientes (table I). The mean pre operative IPSS score was 17.6, whereas the post operative  IPSS was 3.3. The average postoperative  size decrease of the gland was 34.2 grams.

Conclusions: Selective photo vaporization of the prostate (PVP) using the XPS Green Light Láser at 180 watts, proved to be a safe reproducible procedure with a short learning curve. It has a complication and a re intervention rate  very similar when compared to bipolar TURP.
