Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Determine the initial stage of presentation of prostate cancer in patients attending the urology clinic.

MATERIAL AND METHODS: The electronic records of a total of 2,770 male patients between 40 and 95 years old who were consulted for the first time in the urology service from 2016 to August 2020 and were retrospectively analyzed. 130 patients met the inclusion criteria: age between 40 and 95 years, prostate specific antigen (PSA) above 4 ng / dl., diagnosis of prostate cancer by biopsy or immunohistochemistry, extension studies such as bone scintigraphy and contrast abdominal and pelvic tomography. All prostate cancer follow-up patients were excluded.

RESULTS: The most frequent age range in which the initial detection of prostate cancer occurred was 71 to 80 years for 67.6%, followed by 61 to 70 years (42%). 58.5% of the patients had PSA between 4 to 10 ng / dl, for 58.5%. The most predominant Gleason was Gleason 6 (3 + 3), 53.3%. In 41.6% of the cases it was low risk. 41 (31.5%) of the 130 patients with prostate cancer diagnosed with histopathological study were positive for bone metastases by bone scintigraphy. 25 patients presented visceral metastases on abdominal tomography.

CONCLUSION: These results provide information that contributes to enriching the deficient registry of urological tumors in our region.
