Abstract

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is defined as the inability to achieve or maintain an erection that allows satisfactory sexual intercourse for more than three months. The advent of drug therapies such as the well-known phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors directly aimed at improving erection disorders.

At present, the use of these drugs, possibly due to their easy acquisition in the vast majority of countries and the multiple campaigns of misinformation, has caused patients without any erectile disorder to use them massively, making indiscriminate use with the aim of potentiate sexual relations in quality and time. More and more young patients are attracted to these drugs without taking into account the adverse effects, not only organic but also psychological, that they may cause.
