According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, prostate cancer is the cancer with the highest incidence and the leading cause of death from malignant tumors in Panamanian men.
The Gleason score is associated with the risk of cancer-specific survival in patients undergoing definitive or conservative treatment, as well as with the risk of biochemical progression and metastasis. Unfortunately, pathologic examination of the surgical specimen sometimes reveals tumors to be larger than clinical staging predicts, and Gleason score reports from biopsy do not always agree with definitive ones obtained from radical prostatectomy.
